HOW IT WORKS

Amlodipine blocks the transmembrane influx of calcium into the vascular and cardiac smooth muscles resulting in vasodilation and hence a fall in blood pressure.

Warnings:

Precautions

Should be taken in patients having:
•cardiac failure
•hepatic & renal impairment.
Report to the physician if the patients are allergic to the active ingredients and any other drugs.

Contraindications of Amlodipine

Significant aortic stenosis, sinoatrial node disease, hypersensitivity to dihydropyridines, cardiogenic shock, unstable angina

Side Effects

Report to the physician immediately if the patients are having any of these following symptoms:
• Somnolence
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Ankle swelling
• Oedema
• Flushing
• Fatigue
• Palpitations
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
Rare symptoms:
• Confusion
• Rash
• Gingival hyperplasia
• Muscle cramps
• Dyspnoea

Food To Avoid

If you are allergic to any food, please consult with the physician.
Grapefruit juice and grapefruit should not be consumed. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can lead to an increase in the blood levels of the active ingredients amlodipine, which can cause an unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effect of amlodipine.

Alcohol Interaction

Consumption of alcohol is not advisable.
